At a time when Amerins are creasgly supportive of equal rights for gay, lbian and transgenr people, a growg percentage of Amerins intify themselv as LGBT. [1] The levels of support are siar to earlier, stable support for laws protectg gay and lbian people agast job discrimatn, wh roughly seven ten supportg the protectns 2014 (72%), 2013 (73%), and 2011 (71%). In 2018, approximately six ten (57%) Amerins oppose allowg a small bs owner their state to refe products or servic to gay or lbian people if providg them would vlate their relig beliefs.

Over the last few years, there has been most fluctuatn attus, wh slightly higher opposn to religly based refals to serve gay and lbian people rerd 2016 (61%) and 2017 (60%). Three-quarters of Democrats (75%) and a majory of pennts (56%) oppose religly based refals to serve gay and lbian people, pared to 36% of pennts and 20% of Democrats who support such a policy.

Black Amerins (66%) are likelit to oppose allowg small bs owners to refe service to gay and lbian people based on their relig beliefs, followed by Hispanic Amerins (60%), Asian-Pacific Islanr Amerins (59%), people who are mixed race or another race (58%), whe Amerins (54%), and Native Amerins (52%). Whe evangelil Prottants (55%) and Mormons (54%) stand out as the only relig groups where a majory supports allowg small bs owners to refe to serve gay and lbian ctomers if dog so vlat their relig beliefs; only 37% of whe evangelils and 40% of Mormons oppose this policy.
