Walter Gay (January 22, 1856 – July 13, 1937) was an Amerin pater noted both for his genre patgs of French peasants, patgs of opulent terr scen and was a notable art llector. Walter Gay was born on January 22, 1856 Hgham, Massachetts to an tablished New England fay. He was the son of Ebenezer and Ellen Blake (nee Blood) Gay.
His uncle was the Boston pater Wcksorth Alan Gay, who troduced the young man to the art muny. In 1876, Gay and his wife moved to Paris, France where he beme a pupil of Leon Bonnat.

Walter Gay was born to an old New England fay and spent most of his adult life Paris, as did many Amerin artists of his generatn. The Gays divid their time between their untry hom and their Paris apartment, all meticuloly rated and filled wh llectns of old-master drawgs and French rative arts. His uncle, Wckworth Allan Gay (1821–1910), a Boston landspe pater who had studied France, first terted him art.
