Michael then enlists Dwight (Ran Wilson) to help him figure out who else the office might be gay before the pair ll Jim (John Krasski) at his new office to enquire about buyg a "gaydar" (a prank Halpert pulled on Dwight prevly). But the show’s first season has proven to be far more than a funny s — ’s a spot-on portrayal of lennial gay life, thanks to s characterizatn of one of the tular Two: 28-year-old Carey Dubek (Drew Tarver), a stgglg actor and part-time was a scene durg this season’s fourth episo, when Carey fally mters the strength to ll thgs off wh his credibly attractive but “vlently straight” roommate, Matt, that I fully fell for this show.
And though Matt’s willgns to ocsnally make out wh Carey for a few sends at a time did update the stereotype a b, I uldn’t help but feel slightly trated wh the show’s cisn to play to such a hackneyed ncept — gay guy falls for straight du. Can’t our gay protagonist be given a real romantic tert? It was brilliantly when to satirizg gay life, much of the show is.
