Members of the LGBTQ+ muny formed the group Lbians and Gays Support Mers after realizg police harassment agast the muny dropped off durg the strike. Milk was based on the real life of Harvey Milk, Ameri's first openly gay person to be elected as a public official.
Milk served as a member of the San Francis Board of Supervisors and while the tle might not seem like a lot, the fact that a gay person was elected by the public to any posn 1978 was a huge tone for the LGBTQ+ muny.
