This phenomenologil, ethnographic, llective se study examed the effectivens of Gay-Straight Allianc public high schools South Carola rcg or eraditg aggrsn and bullyg towards LGBTQ stunts through the lens of both queer and cril theori wh a amework of social jtice. The current study vtigated the perceptns of experts and GSA faculty advisors regardg the succs of the clubs rcg or elimatg bullyg South Carola high schools. The vtigatn stemmed om the perceived discrepancy between lerature on GSAs, which reports that the clubs ntribute to a more posive school climate, posive effects on LGBTQ youth, and to fewer stanc of homophobic aggrsn, and rults om the GLSEN Natnal School Climate survey, which dit that this aggrsn still occurs. Four s were created for the study based on three geographic regns of South Carola, and one expert se. GSAs, however, do not guarantee a supportg environment; most advisors report that negative speech and sults are mon. Gay-Straight Allianc, or GSAs, are stunt-led and stunt-anized school clubs that aim to create a safe, welg, and acceptg school environment for all youth, regardls of sexual orientatn or genr inty. GSAs provi a supportive environment for lbian, gay, bisexual, and transgenr (LGBT) stunts, as well as those who are perceived by others to be LGBT, are qutng their inty, have LGBT iends or fay members, or jt re about LGBT issu.
Rearch has shown that LGBT stunts hear fewer homophobic slurs, experience ls harassment, have better attendance, and feel safer at schools that have GSAs.

Genr & Sexualy Alliance Clubs (or GSAs)—formerly known as Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs—are youth-led school or muny-based groups anized for the purpose of supportg LGBTQ+ youth and straight alli through discsn, actn, iendship, and advocy.
The first Gay-Straight Alliance Club emerged 1988 when Kev Jenngs—a history teacher at Conrd Amy (a private, tnal boardg and day school for high school aged stunts) Massachetts—who had jt e out as gay, was approached by a stunt at the school who was straight but was upset by the treatment of gay stunts by her peers. Jenngs creds stunts for both the tablishment of the club, as well as for settg the agenda of battg homophobia, and for chang to Conrd Amy’s non-discrimatn policy.
