“This is the nict gay bar I’ve ever been to, ” says John, a twentysomethg who gave only his first name. And on Sunday, Metropolis be “Magaze: The Club” for gay and lbians terted an upsle, eclectic alternative.

Magaze producer Joe Mozdzen says the club raz the stereotype of the gay bar as a sticky, beery place hnted by lonely, agg men.

*“Gay night” has found s niche clubland, says Mozdzen, who was hired to promote the club jt before the December holidays when was nearly a year old. “In Europe, they’ve been dog a gay night forever, ” he says.

”Metropolis seemed a likely place to host a gay night. “Most gay bars are ltle more than empty rooms, ” he asserts. “This sort of marks a new era gay clubs, ” says Chris Vollente, 28, of Tt, who drops by Magaze about every other week.

“It’s tertg to have a mostly heterosexual staff at a gay club and that they are so iendly. ”Vollente is producer of “Gay Rad, ” an hourlong weekly broadst out of Santa Ana that offers a variety of talk and mic. “Gays leave better tips bee they have more disposable e bee they don’t have children, ” he offers, riskg the perpetuatn of yet another says the club is the classit Southern California, a digrsn om the typil bars often banished to dtrial neighborhoods, where even the police would hassle patrons.
