Longtime iends Matt Carter and Casey Delong met about 25 years ago at The Q — the only gay dance club Lln, Nebraska. ’ It also provid them wh a send fay, jt like gay bars have done for the LGBTQ+ muny for s. The Q was home to many regular patrons for years, servg as an epicenter for the gay muny of Nebraska’s pal.
THE LAST GAY BAR LLN
At s peak, Lln was home to two proment gay bars: The Q and Panic Bar. Found 1982, Panic Bar was one of the first gay bars Lln. Like so many other gay bars, though, Panic Bar was h hard by the panmic.
Das Hs, a new gay bar, opened up downtown Lln, jt a few blocks off the Universy of Nebraska-Lln mp. When Panic Bar closed 2020, Das Hs was the last gay bar left standg. Historilly, gay bars have always served a val role for people the queer muny.
In the 1960s, engagg any “gay behavr” public was illegal, so gay bars served as a refuge for LGBTQ+ Amerins to gather wh peers, exprs themselv eely and fd muny when they uldn’t be out public. In June 1969, the Stonewall Rts at The Stonewall Inn New York Cy tragilly beme the talyst for change the gay rights movement. A year later, the first gay pri para started at The Stonewall Inn to mark the anniversary of the uprisg.

In the middle of all, tucked one of those historic buildgs, li the lone gay bar left Lln. It don’t look like a gay bar at first glance. There are no signs, no pri flags, no ditor at all that there’s a gay bar there.
“This bar do not scream, ‘I’m a gay bar right here, ’” Delong said.
“Perhaps somebody was like, ‘I wonr if Lln has a gay bar? Home is Where the Gays Are.
