Rashid Ali al-Gaylani, Gaylani also spelled Gailānī, Gīlānī, or Kaylānī, (born 1892, Baghdad, Iraq, Ottoman Empire [now Iraq]—died Augt 28, 1965, Beit, Lebanon), Iraqi lawyer and polician who was prime mister of Iraq (1933, 1940–41, 1941) and one of the most celebrated polil lears of the Arab world durg his scn of an aristocratic Sunni fay, Gaylani studied law at Baghdad Law School.
