Anchorg om the lens of suzhi disurse, this rearch rried out a qualative study by terviewg 21 gay men and lbians to explore how they refer to the suzhi disurse to jtify their choic when faced wh the prsure to marry, so as to align themselv more wh the mastream social valu.

Rults dite that when faced wh the prsure to marry, gay men and lbians refer to the suzhi disurse to nstct a posive same-sex inty and civilized muny, pursue civilized same-sex relatnships, or nstct a flexible life. In orr to addrs the gaps, this rearch llected qualative data om gays and lbians to analyze how they al wh the prsure to marry by adjtg their practic to adapt to the disurse of civilizatn.

Rearch wh this area maly vtigat reasons for gay men and lbians to get married, how they al wh the maral prsure, and how their pg strategi fluence people, terms of reasons to get married, social stigma rulted om beg gay, sgle, and unmarried is the primary source of prsure that motivat gay men and lbians to get heterosexually married [7]. This heterosexist opportuny stcture strictly promot heterosexual relatnships but disurag same-sex relatnships [13] the pg strategi to alleviate their maral prsure, many Che gay men and lbians choose to nceal their same-sex inty and marry heterosexuals to manift their mment to reproductn and filial piety [3, 14].

As for the medil and legal dimensns, though homosexualy has been crimalized and pathologized 1997 and 2001, rpectively, gay men and lbians are still ascribed wh the stigmatizg nnotatns of HIV-fected and mentally ill [25]. A Che thor who self-intified as heterosexual, fluent English and Mandar, and had built a rapport wh several Maland lbian and gay muny activists terviewed the participants Mandar—the participants’ first language. The LGBT activists ved the terviewer to post recment rmatn on the WeChat platform (a munitn mobile app wily ed among the Che populatn) where groups of gay men and lbians socialize. Altogether 21 gay men and lbians participated this study, whose ag ranged om 23 to 39 years, cludg 12 people who self-intified as gay men and 9 people who self-intified as lbian.

As this rearch aims to obta as diverse opns as possible, gay men and lbians wh different maral stat and var relatnship experienc were clud for the purpose of generatg a paratively full picture. Participants’ nfintialy, anonymoly dg their nam for reportg purpos, and the choice of immediate whdrawal were the gay participants, two had the experience of nomal marriage, three had a same-sex partner, and five were sgle. FdgsThe data analysis disvered how Che gay and lbian participants referred to the suzhi disurse to make themselv more aligned wh the mastream social valu so to make themselv more acceptable to Che society.
