GAY FILM KOREA
Known for beg an overtly homophobic untry, the fact that a productn like His Man exists at all, is a huge w for the LGBTQ muny South Korea. It featur eight young, profsnal gay men who all enter “Man’s Hoe” for a week to get to know each other and dip their to the datg pool. It would have been really easy for the producers to pict the men they ved to this show negative, stereotypil ways that fall le wh the homophoboic rhetoric that om South Korea, but they didn’t.
Instead, they troduced the world to eight ‘average’ gay men that also jt happened to be South Korean. And among them, they’re all really different, plex personali that jt so happen to share one thg mon: they’re all gay. It’s really hard to pidgeon-hole the men wh negative stereotyp that follow the gay muny around, bee none of the men brought any kd of this baggage wh them to the hoe.
They filled the space wh their thentic selv and watchg them get to know each other affirmed the one thg that we’ve always known all along: there is no one right way to be gay, there is not one sgle versn of what gay should look like. It would have been easy for the creators of His Man to put a stereotypil versn of gayns on our screens that do nothg to advance the queer agenda untri like South Korea.
