Begng 1991, wh DC Black Pri, the Black Gay Pri movement began as a way to provi Black LGBTQ+ people an alternative to the largely whe mastream LGBTQ+ movement serv as a way for Black LGBTQ+ people to discs specific issu that are more unique to the Black LGBTQ+ muny and celebrate the progrs of the Black LGBTQ+ muny. While the mastream gay pri movement, often perceived as overwhelmgly whe, has foced much of s energy on same-sex marriage, the Black Gay Pri movement has foced on issu such as racism, homophobia, and lack of proper health and mental re black muni.
