It worked.</p><p><P><P>The promotn clus quot om a number of well-known (to varyg gre) Amerins on a variety of subjects imprted on Starbucks’ cups.</p><p><P><P>One particular quote, number 43 the seri, has the Concerned Women for Ameri (CWA) cg as proof that Starbucks supports the homosexual liftyle.</p><p><P><P>The quote om Armistead Mp, the wrer of the btseller <I>Tal of the Cy</i>, says: “My only regret about beg gay is that I reprsed for so long. I surrenred my youth to the people I feared when I uld have been out there lovg someone. Don’t make that mistake yourself. Life’s too damn short.”</p><p><P><P>Meghan Kleppger, assistant to the natnal field director at CWA and an avowed loyal, albe former, ctomer of Starbucks, se the quote as another example of the ffee cha makg the wrong choice on a number of issu that for her and many others is a matter of moraly.</p><p><P><P>She wrote on <I>WorldNetDaily</i> last month: “Starbucks has a rporate policy of supportg the homosexual agenda by sponsorg ‘Pri’ events all over the untry — events where children will be exposed to sexually explic materials and pedophil as well as the extremely liberal and pro-abortn Planned Parenthood. This might be a good time to add that the owner of Starbucks ma a large donatn to a liberal ndidate’s mpaign.”</p><p><P><P>Mreen Richardson, state director of CWA Washgton told <I>The Seattle Tim</i> that the group is not llg for a boytt of Starbucks but suggts the pany would be wise to steer away om activi that might st ctomers. “I thk ’s wiser for them to stay out of the issu so that they don’t offend nservativ and people of fah.”</p><p><P><P>“If you want my money, support some of my ,” she add.</p><p><P><P>Ms. Richardson suggts that if Starbucks is gog to ntue supportg issu such as the homosexual liftyle and abortn, should balance wh ntributns to groups such as the Boy Suts of Ameri, which advot for children but rejects homosexualy as immoral. She also suggted the pany ntribute fancially to the operatn of pro-life clics and advocy groups.</p><p><P><P>Leo Hry, thor of <I>It Tak a CEO: Leadg wh Integry</i>, said there are some issu that are too ntroversial for public bs to al wh. “There are many relig-based social issu that are so hard for society to addrs right now — thgs like abortn and pal punishment — they’re better left for another time…</p><p><P>But there are a uple of plac where is clear to me that there should be no ambiguy of rporate rponsibily — the environment and civil rights. She also add that Starbucks do not make outright ntributns to groups such as Planned Parenthood.
