In our terview, Mara chatted about how the character has more to do wh her than you thk, beg the “only gay the village” and not talkg about the dirty tle pun of her first album … until now.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but some of your fans are gay.

MARA GAY

Tthfully, I’d say 60 percent gay, 40 percent teen girls.

When did your relatnship start wh the gay dience?

On the first album I fely did have a gay fan base, but was much smaller, bee I’m a very flamboyant character and the shows are really theatril. But I don’t really talk about the whole gay muny thg, bee I don’t want to be a cliche pop star sayg like, “I love my gays!

What was the gay scene like where you’re om Wal?

(Lghs) I didn’t really see any kd of gay scene until I moved to London when I was 19. I was the only gay the village! You’ve said that you relate to your gay fans, and obvly they relate back to you.

Also, on this album, a lot of the humor has really ught the gay muny’s attentn. As far as the whole rtoon persona go, do you thk your gay dience appreciat your flamboyant look and fashn more than your mastream dience? No, but gay people pick up on thgs a ltle b quicker and sense stuff that is potentially unrground or que cultish and is gog to bee bigger before a mastream dience will.
