“People don't regnize , but Buffalo is very much a trailblazer of the early gay rights movement,” said Adrienne Hill, one of the founrs of the Buffalo- Niagara LGBTQ History Project. The history of Buffalo’s gay liberatn movement is extensive.

Hill noted that the 1940s and 50s, the cy had a well-tablished gay bar culture that tend to be left alone by police due to rptn. In turn, law enforcement began to crack down on the gay and lbian bars throughout the 1960s.
