We terviewed GBM approximately one-year before this new ferral policy was approved by Health Canada. Most participants were opposed to any ferral perd relatn to MSM-specific sexual activy. Participants believed that multiple “genr bld” and HIV ttg-related strategi uld be tegrated to the blood donatn procs. The preferenc for a move away om MSM-specific exclns aligned wh their opns ncerng the possible change to a 3-month MSM ferral, for which participants shared three overarchg perspectiv: (1) step the right directn; (2) ambivalence and uncertaty; and (3) not an improvement. A predomant assertn was that a change om a 12-month to a 3-month ferral perd would not rolve the fundamental issu of fairns and equy affectg blood screeng practic for GBM Canada. Many participants believed that blood donatn policy should be based on more up-to-date scientific evince ncerng risk factor asssment and HIV ttg.
