In Augt 1919, Roy Maistre (then known as Roi Mtre) and his lleague Roland Wakel held Atralia’s first mornist exhibn at Gayfield Shaw’s Art Salon Sydney. It was a show full of vibrant lour matched to a mil sle of the artists’ visg. Of the fourteen works shown, eleven were Cubist-rmed scen of the harbour’s forhor and boatsheds, but the remar were non-objective abstractns, a genre never seen before this untry.

Norman Ldsay plaed about Shaw’s bs practis a May 1923 letter to his olr brother Lnel: '[Gayfield Shaw] is a fool, on his own acunt, for I send a lot of work elsewhere that would go to him, but for the fact that he never lets know when a work is sold, and lays payment till one is forced to drag out of him by threats which mak impossible to allow him to rry too much money, for if he cracked up sudnly, as he well might, the loss is evable.

The Gayfield Shaw gallery had closed s doors by late 1924 and much of his stock was sold at a high profile sale at Jam R. In November 1933 the Sydney Morng Herald reported that the Society of Women Paters was holdg an exhibn at the Gayfield Shaw Gallery at 104 Hunter Street, Sydney. Lawson Pty Ltd held a sale, March 1981, of a large fay owned llectn of art created by, or once owned by, Gayfield Shaw.
