In 2014, we created the Gay Lea Foundatn, our own registered chary dited to supportg tn, poverty relief, -operative velopment and muny well-beg projects the muni where our members and employe live, work and play – and velopg untri around the world.

The Gay Lea Foundatn is pleased to announce 11 new charable grants totalg more than $190, 000 support for projects enhancg tn, poverty relief, -operative velopment and muny well-beg Canada, Ai, and South Asia. The projects were selected by the Foundatn’s Board of Directors – prised of Gay Lea Foods employe, members, legat, and directors – as the -operative celebrated Co-op Week om October 17-23.

Fundg for the grants is provid by an annual $150, 000 ntributn om Gay Lea Foods, as well as an elective employee payroll ductn program and anized ternal “Co-op Week” activi that regularly raise upward of $100, 000 annually for the Foundatn and the projects supports.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $15, 000 to support the upgra and expansn of a 14-year-old GFS Nyakigyera, Southwtern Uganda as well as the livery of Participatory Hygiene and Sanatn Transformatn (PHAST) trag all tchment muni. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $25, 000 to help CMHA Ontar reach over 2, 560 farmers across Ontar the first year of the program (2022) and eventually expand the program to reach every farmer Ontar. As a foundg donor of The Green Schools Project, the Gay Lea Foundatn was stmental providg almost 5, 000 stunts schools Malawi wh clean water, hands-on learng staable agriculture, and sential lsons health 2019.

Gay Lea Foundatn Donatn: $25, 000 to create a stunt engagement program that will ntue to teach permaculture, soil nservatn and staable agriculture practic while empowerg stunts to put their learng to actn through home and muny-based garns, as well as iate activi that n pass knowledge to the younger stunts who will follow them.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $23, 130 to tra more than 400 Growg Health Champns India who will s trag and lnch Life Garns to people more than 1, 800 muni. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $5, 000 to fund the purchase of two water tanks, garng tools, plants for the perennial food fence that surrounds the garn, and plants for fai unable to afford seedlgs.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $20, 000 to support the purchase of materials, pay staff and hired technicians, and tra lol villagers the nstctn and matenance of the water system.

The Gay Lea Foundatn is pleased to announce 13 new charable grants supportg tn, poverty relief, and/or muny well-beg projects Canada, Ai, and South Ameri. The grants were approved by the Foundatn board late April, brgg total donatns om the charable anizatn to more than $340, 000 Gay Lea Foods’ Fisl 2023 year. Fundg for the grants is provid by an annual $150, 000 ntributn om Gay Lea Foods and further subsidized through elective employee payroll ductns and anized employee fundraisg activi held durg Co-op Week.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $15, 000 to support the nstctn of one 80 village tap stands (each servg a populatn of between 400-500 people a day) and provi cril hygiene and sanatn trag to the muny. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $22, 136 to purchase 66 goats (two female and one male for each recipient), provi agricultural suppli and support, and liver learng and velopment opportuni that clu trag personal nutrn, livtock re (goat breedg, nutrn, and kg), and the goat bs. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $10, 000 to sponsor 10 thoughtfully prepared and fillg hot breakfasts over a 10-month perd for emergency shelter clients (an timated 6, 500 meals).

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $10, 000 to support the expansn of CFTC’s work Indigeno muni Canada so that they may provi the assets, trag, and support need to help muny members build a staable, culturally appropriate food system that leads to food secury and food sovereignty for all.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $6, 000 to purchase grocery gift rds to supplement the fixed e (Ontar Disabily Supplements of approximately $1, 000 a month) of 40 dividuals wh velopmental disabili who live semi-penntly wh assistance om CLNH.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $7, 217 to purchase all suppli required, cludg raised garn beds, garn soil, tools, nng equipment, a poster, and an outdoor storage shed. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $25, 000 to support direct program sts cludg gredients, suppli, and equipment, as well as staffg sts and honorariums for Peer Lears.

GAY LEA FOUNDATN ANNOUNC SEVEN NEW CHARABLE GRANTS

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $10, 000 to support the lol sourcg of materials and subntractors Central Uganda, cludg water well drillg, exvatn, and nstctn. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $25, 000 to facilate the trag of a new hort of widows and orphans, cludg seeds, fertilizer, tools, the nstctn of a new dimentary school space/classroom and barn, and the purchase of dairy ws to beg next phase of the project (dairy management and the productn of anic fertilizer).

GAY LEA FOUNDATN ANNOUNC FIVE NEW CHARABLE GRANTS

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $19, 800 to plete the exvatn, nstctn, and stallatn of the irrigatn system, as well as provi technil support and trag to muny members. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $10, 000 to expand the Interview Seri project wh the help of a Program Coordator who will brg youth and food lears om across Canada and implement a number of project optimizatns, cludg stctured trag ssns for youth participants, the tentnal selectn of a diverse set of terviewe that may be more relatable to youth, and the velopment of a Food Lear Network to allow youth further opportuni to engage wh and learn om terviewe.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $10, 000 to support youth learship programmg at FortWhyte Farms, which clus hands-on learng at the farm and the kchen, as well as lsons fancial leracy. Chosen for their mment to poverty relief, muny velopment and/or the advancement of tn, the grant recipients were selected om a rerd pool of 87 applyg chari this fall by the Foundatn’s Board of Directors, prised of Gay Lea Foods employe, shareholrs, legat and directors. “We know the past year has been extremely challengg for people Canada and around the world, wh the panmic exacerbatg need and puttg an creased stra on chari, ” says Gay Lea Foundatn Chair, Ja Rgelberg.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $19, 350 to purchase and transport qualy wheelchairs to Kenya, where they will be distributed to children livg wh disabili. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $8, 000 to support material procurement, stallatn supervisn, and spectn for the two rawater llectn systems Kahama Village.

Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $25, 077 to tra 50 muny-based primary health re workers; equip the district hospal wh cril ophthalmic equipment, stments and suppli; source and procure monly prcribed eye re meditns and antibtics (to be distributed ee of charge to muny members), and; liver a prehensive muny awarens mpaign about eye disease and proper eye health. Gay Lea Foundatn grant: $20, 000 to support school learship across 20 First Natns northern Ontar and Manoba durg the 2020-2021 school year.

GAY COMMUNY ENDOWMENT FUND
