Manuel Gayoso Lemos Amorín y Magallan was born Oporto, Portugal, on May 30, 1747, the son of Spanish nsul Manuel Luis Gayoso Lemos y Sarmiento and Thera Angéli Amorín y Magallan. MANUEL LUIS GAYOSO GAYOSO LEMOS
Born Oporto, Portugal, on May 30, 1747, Manuel Luis Gayoso Lemos y Amor was the son of Manuel Luis Gayoso Lemos y Sarmiento and Thera Angeli Amor y Magallan.
Relatively ltle is known about his early life, but Gayoso may have been ted at Wtmster College England. Gayoso was named ernor of the Nahotchez district 1787 and remaed that posn until 1795 when Spa officially ced the district to the Uned Stat wh the Treaty of San Lorenzo, also known as Pckney’s Treaty. Gayoso remaed Natchez for another two years, helpg smooth the transn, until Kg Charl IV appoted him ernor-general of Spanish Louisiana and Wt Florida 1797.
His fluency Spanish and English enabled Gayoso to munite wh Amerins encroachg on the borr at a time when Spanish officials feared US expansn.
