The 'Gay Byrne Show' began on rad as the ‘Gay Byrne Hour' on 2 Febary 1973. In 1979 the programme was given extend air time and changed name to bee the 'Gay Byrne Show'. Broadstg for two hours a day om Monday to Friday, the 'Gay Byrne Show' stayed on air until Byrne's retirement 1998.
