Gay Byrne (1934-2019) a rad and televisn broadster was born Dubl and he joed Rad Éireann 1958. From 1973 to 1998, he prented 'The Gay Byrne Hour' on Rad 1.

Gay Byrne:A Life Pictur. Gay Byrne had a profound effect on the cultural and social velopment of Ireland the urse of his long tenure as Ireland’s most succsful broadster. Gay Byrne was born on Augt 5, 1934 and grew up Rialto on the southsi of Dubl, before movg to the South Circular Road, Dubl, 1944.
After showg an early tert jazz mic and beg spired by Eamonn Andrews, Gay began workg as a broadster 1958 on Rad Éireann, prentg a 15-mute slot dited to jazz on Monday nights. Gay married Kathleen Watks, formerly a well-known harpist, the Church of the Nativy of the Blsed Virg Mary, Saggart, 1964. In 1973, the hugely-popular Gay Byrne Hour began to air on RTÉ Rad 1.

A bt of Gay was unveiled outsi the RTÉ rad centre September 1999 to mark his work for the broadster and his ntributn to Irish life.
When Gay stepped down om the Late Late June 1999 he was prented wh a Harley-Davidson by Bono and Larry Mullen Jr of U2, a band who the Late Late had featured on the show om almost the very start of their reer. However, Gay wasn’t off the airwav for long.
He returned wh his own hugely popular mic show on Lyric fm and 2009, The Meang of Life wh Gay Byrne began on RTÉ televisn which he terviewed public figur about their fah or lack thereof. Gay ma one of his last public appearanc 2018 to unveil a plaque dited to The Beatl outsi the se of their one and only gig at Alphi cema on Abbey Street, Dubl. Gay Byrne may have sat at or near the top of the TV ratgs for most of his half-century broadstg but his fancial health was far ls nsistent.
