LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The send annual alternative prom Logan signed to make LGBTQ stunts feel fortable was anized by teenagers this time and was lled "Queer Prom." Oliver Wley, the son of Logan Pri Foundatn Print Rikki Wheatley-Boxx, was on the planng mtee for this year's prom, which was held Saturday. He said there's a ph, among younger generatns, to reclaim the word "queer." "It's somethg my parents' generatn grew up wh as an sult," Wley said. "Now, we see as somethg betiful and to be proud of." Wley said queer also is a more clive term, bee clus anyone who intifi as lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr, asexual, or any other group unr the umbrella of the different versns of the LGBT acronym. Wley, who is transng om female to male, said this prom is pecially meangful to him. "This will be my first year gog as someone who knows who they are," Wley said. "I found myself the space between last Queer Prom and now." The prom was anized by three different LGBT anizatns Cache Valley: the Cache Pri Center (prevly known as the Cache Youth Rource Center), the Logan Pri Foundatn, and LGBTQ+ Coffee, The Herald Journal reported . Blue Insa of LGBTQ+ Coffee said events like queer prom are important to LGBT teens, pecially Utah and ral muni, "Queer Prom is a way of sayg, hey, you're valued and we see you, all of you," Insa said. "All of your gayns, all of your transns, all of your queerns. You n exprs that here and have that gateway moment of a prom." Js Zamora-Kelso, director of the Cache Pri Center, said Queer Prom is jt one of many ways the nonprof works to support LGBT youth the valley.
