Followg a day memoratn of the Stonewall Rts of 1969, LGBTQ lols gathered on Oxford Street at 10pm to march for equal regn, fight scrimatn agast LGBTQ people employment and hog, revoke anti-gay laws, and end police harassment. The march, held on June 28, 1970, was the first gay pri march the U. The month of June is wily nsired Gay Pri Month. The first Mardi Gras was held on 24 June 1978 at 10 pm as a night-time celebratn followg a morng prott march and memoratn of the Stonewall Rts More than 500 people moved down Oxford St, llg for an end to discrimatn agast homosexuals employment and hog, an end to police harassment and the repeal of all anti-homosexual laws.
53 of the marchers were arrted although most charg were eventually dropped, the Sydney Morng Herald published the nam of those arrted full, leadg to many people beg outed to their iends and plac of employment, and many of those arrted lost their jobs as homosexualy was a crime New South Wal (NSW) until 1984.
