It’s jt unr one week until one of the ma events myself and my iends always go to kicks off – Manchter’s Big Weekend, otherwise known as Gay Pri. When I e out as gay, a number of people said to me; “no you’re not, ” followed by tsive qutng.
Beg h wh the unwanted quizzg is annoyg, but worse than that, I nsir a form of homophobia – suggts a lack of rpect for someone’s personal sexualy. Homophobic slurs and discrimatn were also proment my high school, but the difference was that whilst I was stgglg wh my sexualy, I was aware of support webs and gay pri events.
I knew that there were gay people lovg relatnships, and that away om the high school environment, beg gay was somethg that uld be celebrated. I want to be able to celebrate beg part of the disabled muny wh as much openns and fun as I am now able to celebrate beg part of the gay muny. I am gay and have impairments, and the two factors are extrible parts of my experience.
