Young lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr, queer as well as other sexual/genr mori (LGBTQ+) persons have higher rat of suicidal iatn and behavr pared to their non-LGBTQ+ peers, particularly durg their g out. The “It Gets Better” project is a multi-natnal media mpaign that aims to rce suici among LGBTQ+ adolcents by providg personal narrativ of hope livered by maly adult LGBTQ+ persons. There is only ltle knowledge so far on how young LGBTQ+ people as well as experts suici preventn and unselg perceive the vios, and how to potentially improve the vios based on their perceptns. A total of n = 19 LGBQ+ adolcents and young adults and n = 9 experts participated foc groups to discs perceptns of a selectn of “It Gets Better” vios. Eight foc groups were nducted to asss perceptns on the procs of watchg the vios, possible effects on young LGBQ+ viewers general, and suicidal LGBQ+ youth particular, as well as factors that were relevant to their perceptns. Msag were found to be helpful terms of promotg hope. LGBQ+ youth intified several key strategi to crease intifitn wh msag, which they nsired ccial for their effectivens. Cricism emerged om a perceived lack of diversy terms of portrayed sexual inti, and some shallowns the portrayal of suicidal iatn and how thgs n get better. The experts’ perceptns of the vios were largely nsistent wh LGBQ+ youth, highlightg a posive potential of vios to support g out and inty buildg procs. Young people and experts view the vios as helpful and relevant, but intified several strategi to better tailor them to the needs of LGBTQ+ adolcents, cludg suicidal peers.
