Pri Month is a month-long observance celebratn of lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr, and queer people—and the history, culture, and ntributns of the people and their muni. Pri Month trac s roots to such protts and specifilly memorat the event known as the Stonewall Rts or the Stonewall Uprisg, which is often nsired the start of the movement for gay, queer, and transgenr rights.
The observance of Pri Month (and earlier events like Gay Pri Day) trac back to a para held New York Cy 1970 to mark the one-year anniversary of what beme known as the Stonewall Uprisg. This event, sometim referred to simply as Stonewall, started on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, a New York Cy bar equented by gay and genr-nonnformg people (at a time when terms like LGBTQ didn’t yet exist). Police arrted several people, cludg gay people, drag queens, and transgenr activists Marsha Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.
