The Cornell Gay People's Center at Sheldon Court on College Ave was opened March 1972 rponse to the needs of the growg gay muny. The new space gave the gay rights stunt group, Cornell’s Gay Liberatn Front, more eedom to hold meetgs and parti and served as a safer space than their former office Willard Straight Hall where stunts feared beg outed. However, the Gay People's Center was not immune to street vandalism and harassment as received obscene phone lls and the bullet board was once set on fire.
In the takeover's aftermath, Print Rhos "offered LGBT stunts a 'study group' to al wh homosexual issu but which had no time ame, no missn statement, no fancial backg, no guarantee of any implementatn of s fdgs, and no wrten report requirement. In May of 1998, s name changed to Lbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgenr Rource Center.
