Virata, the youngt of five ( two olr brothers and two olr sisters) is the only gay fay member. 'For the most part, I haven't had a bad experience wh beg gay, ' he said. I wanted to reprent the Asian muny a posive light, but also wanted to reprent the gay and lbian muny a posive light, ' he said.

'Que often the media, gays are portrayed a stereotypil way. I wanted to break the mold a ltle, to show the rt of Ameri that gays n be athletic, articulate, ol people, on and off the island. I'm not ashamed of beg gay, not at all.
Virata add that ' [ a] lot of the stigma [ about homosexualy] and the negative portrayal of gay people the media is simply bee of a lack of unrstandg and ignorance. Pl, what they often see is a flamboyant drag queen on a float the middle of Gay Pri San Francis.
'It's kd of ol to be a role mol to younger people bee I'm not your stereotypil Wt Hollywood gay person, ' he said. That would have been ol, if only to help elimate stereotyp some Ameri have toward gay people.
