Milwkee Ave. November</a>. Of the 88 apartments, 41 are affordable hog uns and 47 are CHA project-based uns.</p><p>The goal of the project was to brg affordable hog to a gentrifyg stretch of Milwkee Avenue that has attracted luxury hog recent years, and to create a hub for the LGBTQ muny. He lost his job at Father and Son Pizza Logan Square 2019 and has lived wh a relative the suburbs.</p><p>Castillo has been chg to move back to Logan Square, where he’s spent most of his life and do muny anizg. In addn to beg a LGTBQ rights activist, Castillo is a longtime member of the Uny Park Advisory Council.</p><p>“My heart is Logan Square. My roots are there,” he said. “The work that I do is Logan Square and the muny is important to me. When John passed away, was basilly Uny Park Advisory Council members who stepped up and looked after me.”</p><p>Castillo said movg to the buildg wasn’t always his plan, but ’s somethg that’s always been the “back of [his] md” as he advoted for s nstctn.</p><p>“I didn’t want to give the appearance that I’m phg for a buildg only bee I want to live ,” he said.</p><p>But beg between jobs is why Castillo has not been approved for an apartment the buildg. The veloper requir all of s tenants to show proof of e bee the plex was built wh feral tax creds. Castillo said he has some money saved up and is lookg for a job, but that’s not enough for the veloper. </p><p>Gonzalez told Block Club he would “like nothg more” than for Castillo to move to the buildg, but the realy is he don’t meet the buildg’s requirement. Several uns are still available to rent, Gonzalez said. </p><p>“We want Mr. Castillo to live there, but we n’t have Mr. Castillo if he don’t qualify,” Gonzalez said. “It’s very hard for any builr, or any veloper, to give a un for ee bee then be a discrimatn issue. Why do he live there for ee when no one else n?”</p><p>Gonzalez rejects the accatn his team nied Castillo an apartment and said they are “workg wh” Gonzalez to get him the buildg. He said he wants Castillo to apply for the Chigo Rental Assistance program that helps people at risk of experiencg homelsns. But Castillo said he’s worried he don’t qualify, given that he currently liv the suburbs.</p><p>“Believe me, we would love to have Mr. Castillo livg there. It was named after him. He was ducted to the Chigo Gay and Lbian Hall of Fame.</p><p>In their years together, Pennycuff and Castillo were “separable,” the Wdy Cy Tim wrote. They uld often be found marchg alongsi one other.</p><p>The uple was nied an opportuny to marry Illois 2004, so they traveled to San Francis to tie the knot. They were among the first wave of Chigo same-sex upl to do so.</p><p>Not all of the memori they shared together are happy on, however. The uple bore the bnt of vlence and hateful rhetoric for their activism. Castillo said someone set their rabow flag on fire the ’90s, and they were sent ath threats after they registered to get married Cook County. Milwkee Ave. November</a>. Of the 88 apartments, 41 are affordable hog uns and 47 are CHA project-based uns.</p><p>The goal of the project was to brg affordable hog to a gentrifyg stretch of Milwkee Avenue that has attracted luxury hog recent years, and to create a hub for the LGBTQ muny. He lost his job at Father and Son Pizza Logan Square 2019 and has lived wh a relative the suburbs.</p><p>Castillo has been chg to move back to Logan Square, where he’s spent most of his life and do muny anizg. In addn to beg a LGTBQ rights activist, Castillo is a longtime member of the Uny Park Advisory Council.</p><p>“My heart is Logan Square. My roots are there,” he said. “The work that I do is Logan Square and the muny is important to me. When John passed away, was basilly Uny Park Advisory Council members who stepped up and looked after me.”</p><p>Castillo said movg to the buildg wasn’t always his plan, but ’s somethg that’s always been the “back of [his] md” as he advoted for s nstctn.</p><p>“I didn’t want to give the appearance that I’m phg for a buildg only bee I want to live ,” he said.</p><p>But beg between jobs is why Castillo has not been approved for an apartment the buildg. The veloper requir all of s tenants to show proof of e bee the plex was built wh feral tax creds. Castillo said he has some money saved up and is lookg for a job, but that’s not enough for the veloper. </p><p>Gonzalez told Block Club he would “like nothg more” than for Castillo to move to the buildg, but the realy is he don’t meet the buildg’s requirement. Several uns are still available to rent, Gonzalez said. </p><p>“We want Mr. Castillo to live there, but we n’t have Mr. Castillo if he don’t qualify,” Gonzalez said. “It’s very hard for any builr, or any veloper, to give a un for ee bee then be a discrimatn issue. Why do he live there for ee when no one else n?”</p><p>Gonzalez rejects the accatn his team nied Castillo an apartment and said they are “workg wh” Gonzalez to get him the buildg. He said he wants Castillo to apply for the Chigo Rental Assistance program that helps people at risk of experiencg homelsns. But Castillo said he’s worried he don’t qualify, given that he currently liv the suburbs.</p><p>“Believe me, we would love to have Mr. Castillo livg there. It was named after him. He was ducted to the Chigo Gay and Lbian Hall of Fame.</p><p>In their years together, Pennycuff and Castillo were “separable,” the Wdy Cy Tim wrote. They uld often be found marchg alongsi one other.</p><p>The uple was nied an opportuny to marry Illois 2004, so they traveled to San Francis to tie the knot. They were among the first wave of Chigo same-sex upl to do so.</p><p>Not all of the memori they shared together are happy on, however.
