One of the biggt onle groups for LGBTQ+ LEGO fans and their alli is undoubtedly GayFOLs. A thrivg onle muny on Facebook, GayFOLs is currently home to over 850 members form all over the world. I asked s founr, Bce H., to tell a b about his experience and how and why GayFOLs me to be.

It was that day, while standg le, that I got on my phone and created the “GayFOLs” Facebook page thkg would be a great way to meet others like me. It took a few years before GayFOLs found s purpose.
In June 2018, some AFOLs shared Pri MOCs on a popular Facebook page, only to be met by hostily, dismissivens and homophobic vrl. That’s when I remembered my GayFOLs page.
From then on, whenever homophobia raised s head on other pag, we’d wave our flag and say “We have a safe place where you n be who you are, and meet others like you! GayFOLs rhym wh AFOLs. Even though GayFOLs has the word “gay” , our membership spans the extend LGBTQ+ acronym, and our learship reflects that same diversy.

GayFOLs pretty much ns self. The stori told at our gathergs stay at our gathergs (GayFOLs safety clus safety om beg outed), but we have e to learn that everyone has a distct story about why or how they end up wh GayFOLs. That’s what GayFOLs beme.

This didn’t work, so the end I left the group rather than try to al wh the obv homophobia. I did end up jog a different group after that, partly to take advantage of the LUGBULK program, but I kept my MOCs mostly to myself jt bee I didn’t want to have to al wh more homophob. Part of the problem society here is that homosexualy is still illegal, so both stutnalized and societal homophobia still n unchecked.
