GAY DADS MAY BE MORE VOLVED THEIR CHILDREN'S LIV
Gay fathers did not differ signifintly om nongay fathers their reported gree of volvement nor timacy level wh children. Gay fathers tend to be more strict, more rponsive to children's needs, and to provi reasons for appropriate behavr to children more nsistently than nongay fathers. However, gay men and lbian women’s recent accs to marriage prents new qutns about the genred maral dynamics of tergeneratnal regivg.
The fdgs provi new sight to the termgled rol of “greedy” marriag and “needy” parents, where maral negotiatns around regivg vary by genr for gay, lbian, and heterosexual maral dyads. Keywords: Gay, lbian, and heterosexual spo; genr tergeneratnal regivg; maral dynamicsAdult children unrtake nearly half of the daily regivg labor performed for agg adults (Pquart & Sörensen, 2011; Seltzer & Bianchi, 2013; Swartz, 2009). We take a step forward by explorg the dynamics of spoal support provisn wh gay, lbian, and heterosexual marriag where at least one adult child performs tergeneratnal regivg.
We analyze qualative dyadic data om 90 -pth terviews wh midlife dividuals 15 gay marriag, 15 lbian marriag, and 15 heterosexual marriag. Studi that rely on qualative and nonreprentative sampl suggt that gay and lbian midlife adults (much like heterosexual adults) provi tensive re to fay members such as parents (Cayleff, 2008; Price, 2011).
