All were named after typ of soldiers or ary or related figur, prefixed wh 'Gay'. [1][2] The Gays were the last petrol powered warships to be built for the Royal Navy.
[3] They were lnched between 1952 and 1954, wh the last of the class, Gay Forter, beg lnched March 1954. Most of the vsels served for a before beg retired and sold off, though the longt-lived, Gay Charteer, was only sold off 1971, after nearly 20 years service.
