I'll be movg to tri-c wh the month and wanted to know how gay life is there? Not really to bars, but lookg for other gay folks area who are terted meetg for dner, movi, kayakg, etc. It's much easier here to meet people who are gay through school or somethg like that.

There are a lot of gay people the tri-ci, believe or not. But, overall the area is very unacceptg towards gay people. My advice would be to jo a gay group or support club the area and meet people that way, too.

It is a great place to make iends--gay, straight, whatever. Someone mentned that there was a signifint gay/lbian populatn the they married/closeted or actually "livg" a gay life?

What exactly is a gay life? I've heard for years that Johnson Cy is "ltle San Francis" but to be hont I don't know that many gay people here. I've observed that gay guys tend to be eher affluent, ted and (relatively) wealthy, or unted, poor and socially immobile.

Unfortunately greener surroundgs like Nashville, Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, Charlton, Savannah, Miami and Birmgham tend to draw away the Tri-Ci' affluent and ted gay populatn.

Thgs are changg somewhat and there's que a few young gay men here who are "out. But back to raw mographics, I work wh at least ten gay people out of a workforce of 120 or so.

Re gay-affirmg church, there possibly may be another one g to the JC area eventually. Internatnal Christian Communy Church, a small gay-affirmg and majory-gay nomatn based Asheville, said last fall there was tert lnchg an ICCC church the JC area.

I grew up the tri-ci the 70s/80s, and when I was leavg 1990, beg "gay" there meant you had a disease! Now that I've been livg away for 20 years, my fay is mostly still there, and my younger sister says she has seen some improvements, but of urse, she is not to the gay scene as you may have been there.

That's where a lot of the msed up folks e om, those hom that still nsir gay life a "s" and those dog "hellbound.

GAY CISG SPOTS

It's happeng other stat/regns where gay marriage has bee legal (thk Iowa, New Hampshire, DC, Connecticut, Vermont, etc), and will take some time, but I thk will happen over time through tn and activism. I have a gay iend who is nsirg a move to the TC. Not beg gay myself, I wasn't too sure.

Some of the populatn is passively homophobic that 's not fortable wh the ia, but won't bother someone about unls that person wash their face (not likely). A lot of the populatn is fortable enough wh homosexualy.

There's one gay bar I know of. Only a very small mory is likely to exhib open negativy over anythg remotely gay. As far as visible gay life, well, I n't see much, so n't be too visible.
