Gay was the pilot of a Devastator torpedo bomber VT-8, and like every sgle man his squadron, he experienced the terror of beg shot down at sea. Gay sat there bobbg up and down the water, the middle of the Japane fleet, probably thkg his life was over, tryg sperately to hi unr his seat chn.
Ensign Gay saw the U. Then-Ensign Gee Gay, U. None of Torpedo 8’s 15 Devastators returned, and Gay was the sole survivor of all who took off that morng om Hor.

But Ts Gay said the first time she met her future hband, she had only a vague ia of who he was. “I was roomg wh this iend, Srlet, and she me home one night and she said ‘We’ve got an vatn to go to Gee Gay’s birthday party.’ I said ‘Who’s Gee Gay?’ ‘Oh, you know, he’s the one that’s been the paper,’” she said. I remember him lookg up at me and sayg ‘Where have they been keepg you?’” Lookg back, Ts Gay said she loved him om the start.

“Only Gee Gay was the type that uld do , though.
If he set his md to do somethg, he did .” They were married 1946 and lived Marietta while Gee Gay worked as a pta for Trans World Airl for over 30 years.
Ts Gay said she remembers those years as some of the happit of her life. Gay said her favore plac were Athens and Paris.
