"GAY FIRE ISLAND"

When I started photographg gay Fire Island, my ia was not to document an amic sense. It was a strange world, even for me as a gay man. I wanted to pture the moments for people -– gay or not -- who, like me, had never seen anythg like them off, pturg gay life a normal light is very important to me.

Myself, I have very personal and long-standg relatnships wh both gay muni on Fire Island -- Cherry Grove and the P -- and I have, of urse, wnsed many chang each place throughout the years. No, I am not meang this any “heterophobic” sense at all -- for one thg, is amazg and gratifyg how well gays and open-md straights exist the Grove and the P today -- but even then is hard not to remember that heterosexuals have the rt of the world available to them and seems only fair that we gay people should have a ltle b of space -- both physil and psychologil -- for ourselv. In addn, I love teractg wh olr people and I actually get along extremely well wh them, men and women, gay and, believe or not, the past few years, I’ve even found that the guys the P, famoly more snobbish, have bee more “approachable.
