When I first arrived Spa, I wanted to nduct my Inpennt Study Project on the relatnship between machismo and homosexualy, and how the liftyl were reprented the arts throughout Spanish history. Ially, I would have liked to study the foundatn of machismo, and how was realized and enforced upon the Spanish people and culture, pecially durg the regime of Francis Fran. Then, I would have liked to ntrast that movement wh the portrayal and the image of the homosexualy muny, exhibg how that broke such a tradnalist belief system. The reason why this subject fascated me was that I was allured by the films of Pedro Almodóvar, who I believed played a major role subvertg the reprsive nstcts of Franism and machismo by stigatg a major change that eventually proved to be beneficial for the GLBT muny. Also, I would have like to clud some analysis of the poetry om the Generatn ’27, pecially Feri Garcia Lor, to expla how the poets subtly materialized their (homo)sexual sir, spe the rise of the impendg dictatorship and the relig mentaly of the Spanish people. In short, his films were irreverent, exploative, pornographic, and outright shockg. Neverthels, he was able to give light to the GLBT muny, by cludg an assortment of outlandish characters, both gay and straight. Moreover, Almodóvar nstcted the characters wh such plexy and plitn that the qutn, or ntroversy, of their sexualy/inty immediately beme sendary and almost normalized. In other words, the ey of Almodóvar, no one fs the homogeno, tradnal valu of fay, proper sex rol, rpect and votn towards one’s untry and relign (valu that the Roman Catholic Church and Fran had attempted to impose upon the people for forty years). Furthermore, Almodovar was an active participant the unrground nightlife scene of Madrid durg the late
