Even though Phoenix has a lol law that prohibs discrimatn agast the L.G.B.T.Q. muny, the urt led that the relig nvictns of the bs owners exempted them om the obligatn to treat all ctomers equally. Acrdg to the urt, signg weddg vatns is a creative act; to pel the owners to sign an vatn agast their will vlat their rights both to eedom of relign and eedom of speech.</p><p class="paywall">The opn treats the bs owners—two women—as a beleaguered mory. Their “beliefs about same-sex marriage may seem old-fashned, or even offensive to some,” the urt wrote. “But the guarante of ee speech and eedom of relign are not only for those who are emed sufficiently enlightened, advanced, or progrsive. They are for everyone.” This, to put charably, is nonsense. The owners of Bsh & Nib are ee to believe anythg they want. In 1982, the <a href=">Supreme Court rejected</a> an attempt by an Amish bs owner Pennsylvania to avoid payg his share of his employe’ Social Secury tax, bee his muny believed helpg their own and not acceptg assistance om the state. “Every person nnot be shield om all the burns cint to exercisg every aspect of the right to practice relig beliefs,” Chief Jtice Warren Burger wrote his opn. “When followers of a particular sect enter to mercial activy as a matter of choice, the lims they accept on their own nduct as a matter of nscience and fah are not to be superimposed on the statutory schem which are bdg on others that activy.”</p><div class="Contaer-bkChBi byNLHx"></div><p class="paywall">It’s long been clear that the ernment has the right to make sure that bs rea om discrimatg their bs practic.
