On June 11, 1999 Print Clton issued a proclamatn signatg June as Gay and Lbian Pri Month. In the spir of honorg equaly and eedom, the print said, "I enurage all Amerins to observe this month wh appropriate programs, ceremoni, and activi that celebrate our diversy, and to remember throughout the year the gay and lbian Amerins whose many and varied ntributns have enriched our natnal life. The origs of Gay and Lbian Pri month n be traced back to a turbulent weekend New York Cy June of 1969.
On the eveng of June 27th, the ual crowd gathered at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar New York Cy's Greenwich Village. On that night, lbians and gay men spontaneoly fought back agast police harassment for the first time.
