Nicholas and Jenson didn’t totally agree there, but they did say the Easter bunny is a ragg homo. But that’s jt one part of what Very Gay Pat do—they’re part paters-for-hire and part edy duo. Tongue--cheek ptns highlight their spiratn (“ancient gay n ed elaborate ruals to help the er digt dairy well to their 50’s”) or give a very gay history lson (“The three l this mural reprent the three l a gay character was legally allowed to say any film om the early 2000s”).

Their prev work has been well-received at edy or stand-up shows, but the ncept for two gay men who pat thgs a very gay way is nothg the terr sign and art world has really ever seen before. And while Very Gay Pat is supposed to make you lgh, Nicholas and Jenson put ser thought to this brand they have created. “I remember growg up and at a time when sayg thgs were gay was ed rogatorily, ” Nicholas explaed.
“Gay films are always very tense, like about AIDS, or there’s Queer Eye.

The dream is for Very Gay Pat to expand to a Very Gay World—one where Nicholas and Jenson show what ’s like when the hierarchy gets flipped, and gay people bee the masters and novators of their worlds. “What a dream to grow up on the playground and be like, ‘Oh no, I’m not gay, I’d never want to do that, ’ and then now as an adult to create this fantasy world where we’re like, ‘Are you straight? When Jenson T and Nick Scheppard, the two halv of the cheekily named VeryGayPat, moved to Los Angel two years ago, patg murals was not part of their plan.

” And th, the very first VeryGayPat mural was born. Courty of VeryGayPatJenson and Nick wasted no time refg their patg technique and tablishg their tramark clean athetic. VeryGayPat murals aren’t meant to be the loud centerpiece of a room—they’re meant to plement the existg sign, and elevate other key piec a space.
At least, that’s if you ask Nicholas Scheppard and Jenson T, the edian-muralist hybrids of Very Gay Pat. Smash cut to prent-day Los Angel, where Very Gay Pat is a fully-fledged mural pany takg on imprsive, high-profile projects like RuPl’s black-and-whe-striped dg room and Trixie Mattel’s Trixie Motel Palm Sprgs. ” They exprs this through their brand big and small ways, om the tagle on their webse (“We pat thgs a way that is very gay”), to their homepage button labeled “Homo” stead of “Home, ” to their promotnal materials overtly parodyg the form of ntent that morn-day artists create.
In many ways, Very Gay Pat is a long-form, drawn-out edy sketch that Scheppard and T have mted to so hard that the muralist characters they’ve veloped and play are now actual, real-life muralists. “I very much thk of Very Gay Pat as a character that I play, ” reflected T. “We created the two muralists that play this way, this satiril and irreverent and absurd voice around beg gay.
FORD ROLLS OUT 'VERY GAY' TCK RPONSE TO HOMOPHOBIC TROLL
Startg om the name Very Gay Pat, ’s obv that the cx of the brand’s edy is their over-emphasis on Scheppard and T beg gay. This ia stemmed om the duo fdg ridiculo how society will view someone’s intifitn as gay as makg whatever they do herently special and signifint. “We uldn’t earntly be like, It is valuable and amazg and good enough that I’m jt gay!
That ia was hysteril— like, very few of the stars of Queer Eye have an amazg proficiency the thg they’re supposed to be good at— ’s jt them beg gay that mak amazg. I always thought that was so funny, like medcry wh the gay label on sudnly mak so sparkly.
But light of the recent, buildg onslght of laws targetg the LGBTQIA+ muny and public displays of homophobic and transphobic behavr, Scheppard adms thgs have changed a b when to celebratg somethg or someone simply for beg gay.

“I thk now, there’s more room for that earnt celebratn of beg gay as beg this spectacular thg. “When we were ls at risk, that seemed so stupid, bee obvly, the next step is that gay people are jt like everyone else.
The over-emphasis on the celebratn of gayns feels dumb until ’s like, Oh sh, no, we actually really need to be celebratg. As Very Gay Pat ntu to navigate the growth of a brand whose very existence is a b, one thg is certa: they will rema very gay. If you aren’t already hip to Very Gay Pat, now’s the time to smarten up.
Found July 2020 by Los Angel-based edians Nicholas Scheppard and Jenson T, Very Gay Pat eye-tchg lors, clean-led shap, and lots of tongue--cheek humor to create vibrant pat murals. As they say: “Turn your walls gay wh pat.
