GREAT SKETCH #2: “THE WORD ‘GAY’,” FRY & LRIE
The Fry and Lrie of the tle are wrer/scholar/gay in/general force for good Stephen Fry and Hugh Lrie, known to most as Hoe but also a mician and adorable scffball his own right. Drsed matchg trenchats and apparently playg olr men (although there’s no real attempt to portray this) the two of them lament the fact that “gay” no longer means what ed to mean. And so, turns out, were several other words, before they were overtaken by same sex hedonists, cludg “pouffy”, “arse band” and even “homosexual”.
The punchle, that the two men are about to go meet some “screamg benrs” for gay sex, is evable but not overly predictable, and everythg leadg up to opens like a trapdoor om one latn to the other. The punchle also pots at the rank hypocrisy that pecially seems to crop up among those who target homosexual people as long as their own liv don’t have to change.
You n see the joy of performg immediately here, and be more evint as the two of them get to swch voic and flectns to give exampl of different sentenc “My word, Jane, the garn’s lookg que homohsexual this morng”) throughout their rant.
