However, no studi have taken sexual orientatn to acunt or nsired wh-group variatn attributable to relled genr nonnformy (a velopmental tra reliably associated wh human nonheterosexualy). We quantified the nral rrelat of mental rotatn by parg two groups of gay men, genr nformg (n = 23) and genr nonnformg (n = 23), to genr nformg heterosexual men (n = 22) and women (n = 22). We observed a sex difference between heterosexual men and women the premotor rtex/supplementary motor rtex and left medial superr ontal gys. We also observed a sex difference as well as a cross-sex shift gay men who relled beg genr nonnformg as children the right superr ontal gys, right angular gys, right amygdala/parahippompal gys, and bilaterally the middle temporal gys and precuns. Th, cross-sex shifts may be associated wh unrlyg velopmental factors which are associated wh sexual orientatn (such as genr nonnformy). The rults also suggt that gay men should not be studied as a homogeno group.
