The Gay Head Wampanoag Indians lived on Martha’s Veyard for thoands of years, and for the last 400 they never gave up tryg to keep their land and rema a sovereign tribe. In 1687, one of the Indians’ Christian lears sold Gay Head and the Elizabeth Islands to Thomas Donegan, ernor of New York. Only three native muni remaed on Martha’s Veyard: Aqunah (or Gay Head), Chilmark and Christiantown. The Gay Hears ripped down his e-long fence.
