Gay was a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carola Coach Associatn and was the first North Carolian to be chosen as print of the Natnal Feratn Interscholastic Coach Associatn. Gay was a great athlete at Charl Coon High Wilson and then earned all-state honors at East Carola football.
