neighborhood rtrant on the East Si wh his wife, San—who, wh a few weeks, would be celebratg her own, forty-fifth birthday—Tony Bent was standg behd a microphone at the Avatar Studs, on Wt Fifty-third Street, rehearsg a few l om “The Lady Is a Tramp” while awag the prence of Lady Gaga.</p><p class="paywall">Lady Gaga was expected to arrive at two o’clock, wh her hairdrser, her makp artist, her creative director, her vol ach, her producer, her secury guards, and others who know her by her pre-fame name, Stefani Germanotta; and then, after she had warmed up, she would jo Bent sgg “The Lady Is a Tramp,” the fal rerdg for his latt album of duets, “Duets II,” which will be released by R.P.M. Rerds/Columbia on September 20th. It is a sequel to his 2006 Grammy Award-wng album, and sixteen other sgers had already llaborated wh him. They clud John Mayer (“One for My Baby”), Carrie Unrwood (“It Had to Be You”), Queen Latifah (“Who Can I Turn To?”), Mariah Carey (“When Do the Bells Rg for Me?”), Aretha Frankl (“How Do You Keep the Mic Playg?”), Willie Nelson (“On the Sunny Si of the Street”), Andrea Bocelli (“Stranger Paradise”), and Amy Wehoe (“Body and Soul”). Bent and Wehoe had sung together London March, four months before her ath, July, at twenty-seven, followg years of faiary wh dgs and alhol.</p><p class="paywall">Over dner a uple of weeks before the ssn wh Lady Gaga, Bent told me that he had been ncerned about Wehoe’s well-beg when he spent time wh her London. You make women do that. Look what you did! . . . Oh, Tony, I would have been chasg you around. A young man scurried to the stud rryg a glass of whiskey. Bent watched as she took a sip. Posada’s my favore.
