Hayward’s Gay Prom event was the brachild of the Lambda Youth Project, an LGBT (Lbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgenr) support group. Each year, hundreds of youth om the San Francis Bay Area and beyond e to Hayward’s Gay Prom event bee is a safe place to be themselv and celebrate wh other like-md youth.
The film featur terviews wh early prom anizers, atten, and supportive muny members terspersed wh footage om the 2011 gay prom and terviews wh recent prom goers, volunteers, and even a 17-mute documentary vio n be viewed on YouTube. Hayward’s Lambda Gay Prom is celebratg s 20th year Saturday.

The Hayward prom is believed to be one of the longt ntuoly nng danc held for gay youth. It was the subject of a 2011 documentary, “Now We Can Dance: The Story of the Hayward Gay Prom. The annual event was started by Project En’s Lambda Youth Project to allow lbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual young people and their iends to experience a high school prom a safe environment.
