The Garland’s owner and asset manager, Jam Crank, is an out and proud gay man whose fay has a long history wh the property. His parents built the hotel 1971 and opened as a Howard Johnson's, which featured a Howard Johnson rtrant/lounge that was a popular gay hangout back the '70s.
“As I got olr, I jt had the olr gay guys e up to me and say, ‘You probably didn’t know , but the ’70s, your bar was like the gay hangout. When Crank’s father died the late '80s, he gave up his pursu of a master's gree unselg gay youth and gay fay servic to help his mom n the hotel. … I thk a lot of that om Stt and I beg gay and beg aware of what our muny want, what wants to eat and drk and how wants to be treated, ” Crank says.
