On the first anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Rts, a march set out om Greenwich Village toward Central Park, culmatg a “gay-” at Sheep Meadow. Organizers were surprised to see thoands of people turn out to prott anti-gay sentiment and promote gay pri durg what was then lled the Christopher Street Liberatn Day March. It was the first time that gay and lbian people had taken to the streets for a public display of solidary, muny, and support.
Then about 20 years ago, a new route emerged wh the march ncludg the historilly gay Greenwich Village neighborhood.
