I am not gay myself, so I n’t speak to the importance films like this have to the LGBT muny for the purpos of seeg themselv on screen. I appreciate that this isn’t jt a story about a gay uple fdg a way to e out to their fay – ’s about a fay as a whole overg their issu and learng how to live healthier liv around one another. We see plenty of exampl of why Harper feels prsured to hi her gay inty om her fay, so ’s at least somewhat unrstandable why she behav the way she do the film.

While this is a light-hearted film, do touch on the darker si of g out as gay, remdg that not all parents are ol wh and many fai have been torn apart by such news. As Abby’s gay btie, he provis sential ic relief and a ndu for the dience to offset the crazs of whatever’s happeng wh the fay – much like Lil Rel Howery’s character Get Out.
My thoughts on this are about the same as wh Love, Simon: ’s great that studs are fundg the mastream gay stori, but that don’t mean manag to pe the generic trappgs of the genre.
