It's a tough, hardscrabble existence for the young lad, his father ad, his mother a part-time prostute, but he is too by jt hangg on to feel sorry for is Gay's homage to Mark Twa, his own take on Huck Fn.
But the thg that will keep me g back for more of William Gay is his prose.

Tim are hard for the characters who populate William Gay's "Fugiv of the Heart," the last a strg of posthumo novels pieced together by his iends om an attic full of scen Gay left behd. * william gay fugitives of the heart *
Lh, scriptive, darkly poetic - is to be slowly read and savored like Tennsee sipp' himself, ced Flkner and Cormac McCarthy as his fluenc and ed, McCarthy's style echo distctly, but still Gay has put his own brand on his style of Southern Lerature - his own way, his own voice. I am so very glad to have found the wrgs of William Gay and unt myself fortunate that there is more of his work yet to disver.

Gay’s pictns of the people that hab the plac, their mishaps and their flts, are imbued wh a gentle humour, but there is also a sense of gratu and love, as though this were wrten as an o to the love he’d found the plac, them of love and iendship, along wh adversy, rptn, and poverty, Fugiv of the Heart also shar a sense of reverence for this one chance we are given to appreciate and embrace this adventure we ll life. I have never read William Gay before; I am Brish; I am fond and faiar wh Southern Gothic as a genre. If you're at all faiar wh what William Gay's most acclaimed work, Twilight, is known for, then the scen won't be surprisg!

The Afterword stat this is not William Gay's 'Southern Gothic' novel (Twilight), but rather, this is William Gay's homage to Mark Twa's 'Huckleberry Fn', which was fluential to his early wrg. As William Gay was published very late life, is sad this story was not published sooner. While to some this may seem troublome, once a rear unlocks the mystery to the nce of Gay’s wrg—which do not take too long and may require jt a small amount of patience—his scriptive powers and storytellg methods bee clear, wh rears soon beg richly reward wh the created imagery of his prose. In the novel, Gay picts the growth and travels of Yat as he navigat through the plexi of the world filled wh those that put more stock the rearg and pedigree of people, rather than character and possibili.
Yat ntu to scratch out a life search of meang and purpose, pecially as he fds too often people, even those you tst, are pable of betrayal and wrg Fugiv of the Heart as wh Gay’s other offergs, and like so many other Southern wrers, is wonrfully scriptive and often so dimutive locutn. I had the opportuny to assist edg this lost work and am so pleased fans of Gay will fally have the chance to read his last novel, Fugiv of the Heart, which is beg published this summer, by Livgston Prs, Universy of Wt Alabama. It’s full of what fans of Gay love about his prose—his dark poetic language and supernatural imagery, the town of Ackerman’s Field, his hnted fort, the Harrik, as well as the roughnecks that often ri his protagonist Marian Yat don’t have much of a chance wh the parents he’s been allotted life. Yat lov Mark Twa’s The Adventur of Huckleberry Fn, which was Gay’s spiratn for this novel.
