I don't have a whole lot of evince for this, but here's my thkg: It never explas why he was sent to the ternment mp, but the film mak a very clear pot that homosexuals were round up along wh other "unsirabl. My thought is that Dietrich fally realized that his former lover, who he lost to the terment mps, was still alive and fightg the good fight; whereas Dietrich had hid his homosexualy and "sold out" to bee a proment figure on the state-ntrolled media.
Yeah, I realize that's prejudice toward gays, but was also part of my thkg while watchg the movie.
