When ‘queer’ was more a slur than an accepted inty and homophobia was cemented culture, media and public policy, the warm sound of Keh Brown’s voice nnected Hartford’s gay muny. Brown’s show, Gay Spir Rad on WWUH, is one of the olst gay rad shows the U.
“He’s our bullet board and he plays the songs of the queer artists … the Indigo Girls, Melissa Etheridge, gay men’s a ppella groups, ” Placer said. “He’s one of the unsung hero of Hartford gay life.
“I would flatter myself if I nsired myself to be the gay Studs Terkel, ” Brown said, referrg to the legendary wrer and broadster who foced his s-long reer on the liv of average people.

Gay Spir Rad was found by Rob Meehan. It was an hour long and featured Meehan terviewg members of “Gay AA, ” an Alholics Anonymo group of LGBTQ men.
A few weeks later, they were joed by lol lbian activists, formg the Gay Spir Rad Collective. Shawn Lang was a member of the Gay Spir Rad Collective the early ’80s.
